Returning to the Land, One Seed at a Time
Before the doors of Diaspora Groceries open in brick and mortar form…
we’re building something deeper first.
We’re building connection.
We’re building knowledge.
We’re building a relationship back to the land.
Because the truth is—before there were stores, there were seeds.
Before there was access, there was ability.
And that’s what We Ready, Let’s Grow is all about.
Planting More Than Food

There’s something powerful about placing a seed into soil.
It requires faith.
It requires patience.
It requires care.
And in return… it gives you something back.
Have you ever sat with your plants and just watched them grow?
Have you talked to them? Encouraged them?
Some people laugh at that—but those who grow know…
there’s a peace that comes with it. A stillness. A kind of healing that doesn’t need words.
Growing your own food reconnects you—to your body, to your ancestors, and to a rhythm that we’ve always known.
Across the African diaspora—from the Caribbean to the American South, from West Africa to London gardens—growing food has always been part of who we are.
Now, we’re reclaiming it.
🎁 The Seed Giveaway
To support this movement, Diaspora Groceries Cares is giving away herbal starter kits and seeds to our community.
This is for the person who’s been thinking about starting.
This is for the person who tried once and wants to try again.
This is for the person who just needs a little push.

Food as Medicine: What’s in Season
This season is rich with foods that don’t just feed you—they restore you.

🌱 Leafy Greens (Collards, Kale, Mustard Greens)
Support detoxification, blood health, and are rich in iron and minerals long valued across Southern and African traditions.
🍓 Berries (Strawberries, Blueberries)
High in antioxidants that support brain health, skin, and inflammation reduction.
🥕 Root Vegetables (Carrots, Beets)
Support blood flow, liver health, and energy—staples across many diaspora cuisines.
🌿 Fresh Herbs (Mint, Basil, Thyme)
Aid digestion, reduce inflammation, and support respiratory health. These small plants carry powerful healing.
Food has always been medicine in our communities.
We’re just remembering it.

A Growing Movement 🌍

This is bigger than gardening.
This is about reclaiming knowledge that was passed down and sometimes lost.
This is about creating access before systems catch up.
This is about reminding ourselves that we already have what we need to begin.
Before Diaspora Groceries becomes a physical space…
we are already building a living, growing community.
One seed at a time.
