Summer Flavors, Seed Stories & Recipes From AcrossThe Diaspora

There’s something about June that feels like music coming through the screen door while somebody auntie cutting watermelon in the kitchen.
The grill smoking outside.
Mint growing in old coffee cans on the porch.
Hibiscus steeping red in the refrigerator.
Kids running through sprinklers while somebody arguing over who makes the best potato salad.
That’s diaspora.
It’s flavor.
It’s memory.
It’s survival seasoned with soul.
At Diaspora Groceries and Diaspora Groceries Cares, we believe recipes are more than food instructions — they are cultural archives. Every herb, spice, stew, tea, and summertime drink carries stories passed from kitchens in Africa, the Caribbean, the American South, Latin America, and neighborhoods all across the globe.
This summer we’re inviting the community to join our:
Diaspora Global Seed Challenge 🌍
From Los Angeles to Liberia.
From Philly rowhomes to London balconies.
From Jamaica to Georgia to South Central.
We want people planting something this season.
Tomatoes.
Callaloo.
Scotch bonnet peppers.
Mint.
Collards.
Aloe.
Watermelon.
Whatever speaks to your roots.
Post your garden.
Talk to your plants.
Share your grandma’s remedies.
Show us what healing looks like in your home.
Because growing food is revolutionary.
And remembering where we come from is too.

Food Is Memory. Food Is Resistance. 🌱
Across the diaspora, we’ve always known how to make something beautiful out of very little.
We turned gardens into medicine cabinets.
Recipes into love languages.
Sunday dinners into therapy sessions.
Seasoning into identity.
That’s why Diaspora Groceries continues building spaces centered around:
Culturally relevant foods
Local growers
Food entrepreneurs
Wellness
Ownership
Community healing
Food justice
Economic opportunity
This summer, grow something.
Cook something.
Teach a child a recipe.
Learn where your herbs come from.
Support a local vendor.

Because every seed carries a story. 🌍🌱
